I just got a macbook and have a D-link wbr-1310 wireless g router connected to a Windows Vista desktop. I am having trouble with getting the router to work with my mac. When I go to the system preferences/network settings, I can only get as far as joining my network, but I am unable to connect to it.

Any suggestions would be great!

A few things to check:

  • Are you using MAC address access control?
  • Are you typing the WPA/WEP password correctly?
  • Does it work when using a network cable?

How do I know if I'm using MAC address control?
Yes I'm typing the password correctly.
I don't know if it works with a cable because I don't have that one you need for Macs.

Were you the one who set up the router? If not, chances are you have not enable MAC address access control. You can check that out when you connect to the router via a browser.

You don't need a special cable for Mac to connect to the router. It users standard RJ45 connector.
