I use to own the Logitech X-530 speaker system with my old iMac. I only used it in a 2.1 environment, which connected through a cheap eBay DAC. To be completely honest, it sounded pretty decent for a relatively cheap price.
I moved and got the late 2013 iMac last November. At this time, I got rid of my logitech because they didn't do 2.1 natively and there were too many wires everywhere.
I recently opted for the Bose Companion 3's (yeah, yeah, I know) for the time being. For $199.00, I got a complete 2.1 system, which speakers fit easily in my small desk space.
My only issue is that I am less than impressed so far. My old Logtiech sounded better than these. My question is regarding my current setup. I am not using the Bose with a DAC. They are connected directly into the iMac's 3.5mm jack.
Will adding a DAC like this help or will not make any difference at all?
