Hi all,
I am still using a Late 2013 Macbook Pro which has two USB3 ports and 2 TB ports that also support miniDisplay port.
I just picked up two TB3 / USB3 capable external hard drives (G Drive 10TB and G RAID 8TB), self powered. I connect through USB3 and have the following issues with that:
- When I connect the 10TB to a USB3 port it's hit 'n miss, sometimes it won't connect sometimes it will. 2nd try always connects
- When I want to connect both drives simultaneously I'm out of USB3 ports so I need to unplug other USB3 devices

I am looking for a way to solve both issues at once by using the built-in TB port. I assume the protocol my MBP uses is compatible with the TB3 interface on the drives, is it? Will I be able to use daisy chaining?
I won't need to power any devices through this interface.
Thanks!

Edit: I could just get a USB3 hub and get it over with, but it will become obsolete when I move on to a new silicon MBP 16" some time next year. I figured a simple TB - TB3 cable could do the trick and be cheaper?

Not sure what is going on here, but it sounds like there is a problem with your USB port, the cable, or the device.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Using Apple's bidirectional adapter should connect the TB3 devices to your TB1 port.

and be cheaper?
Now that is debatable. Apple's bidirectional adapter isn't cheap, and there are no third-party options.

You might be able to find one used for cheap on eBay. I have purchased two of them this way, paying $30 for the first one, and $37.10 for the other.

The second wasn't a great deal, but still cheaper than the $50 for it new:

How about this one?
