I was wondering if the iMac will reduce the speed the data if I connect a firewire 400 device to the firewire 800 connection on the iMac? What I'd like to do is connect an external harddrive firewire 800 and then daisy chain an old photo printer to the external harddrive. The photo priniter is firewire 400. If I did this, would it then reduce the ext hd from fw 800 to fw 400?

Maybe someone else can tell you for sure, but from what I've read here the FW400 device will not slow down the FW800 device as long as the FW400 is the last device in the chain (i.e., furthest from the computer). So, if you plug the printer into the drive and the drive into the iMac, there should be no slow-down.

I haven't tried this myself, though.
