I currently use 2xTBD connected to a late 2013 15" rMBP w/ NVDA dGPU to dock as a desktop, but I just ordered a Dell U3415W to replace one of them for even more real estate. Can I daisy chain the U3415W to the TBD through the included mDP port? Will it support the max resolutions on both displays (2560x1440 + 3440x1440)? I'm pretty confident it will, but looking for confirmation if anyone has experience with these.

daisy chain only works with Thunderbolt 2 ports (yes, 1 doesn't work).

dell is a Display Port. NOT a Thunberbolt 2.
so no.

also, your mac doesn't support thunderbolt 2.

if you're open to the idea to use 2 cables from the macbook, you could connect both monitors.
1 with mini DP > DP cable
1 with USB 3.0 > HDMI 2.0 or DP (but make sure you research your cable if you want full res. most cables on the market at HDMI 1.x which doesn't support full res of the dell U3415W. but only 1080p)

Well I'm currently daisy chaining 2 TBD together and it works just fine, so I figured I could plug the U3415W in via mini Display Port to the back of the first TBD to potentially daisy chain. I'm open to having 2 cables and just using HDMI if need be. Ideally, I'd like to do rMBP => TBD => U3415W.

interesting.. it sounds to me like that you're a "lucky" user.
someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I did a lot of research until I bought my thunderbolt monitor and thought that only thunderbolt 2 allowed display daisy chaining.

what monitors do you have currently?

anyway, the U3415W seems like a beast of a monitor. I have the LG 34UM95, and love it. (this one is thunderbolt if that's a selling factor to you as well as their curved version, 34UC97)

I was under the impression that all Thunderbolt could daisy chain, but I haven't researched it in a long time. Right now I'm using 2 Apple Thunderbolt Displays daisy chained together. I'm also pretty confident that my rMBP can handle that resolution, since I saw those reports when it first came out about powering 3 external displays so I figure it's only slightly more than the 5120x1440 that it's currently powering.

FWIW, here's a Macworld link talking about TB daisy chaining when TB1 came out, well before TB2
