Just curious if there is a simple way to connect two iMacs and have them run as one machine, using power from both cpus and having a dual monitor setup?

Is this faster than a mac pro?

Would there be issues if one failed?

Not even close to possible.

What you're describing is called a Beowulf cluster. It's not even close to possible with macOS but there are linux distros that support it pretty easily.
