I have a MacBook with a FW400 port, but no FW800 port. I need to connect two LaCie external hard drives. The LaCies have one FW400, one FW800 and one USP port each. Can I do this as follows?

MacBook---FW400---LaCie1---FW800---LaCie2

Basically, can I use FW800 to connect drive 2 to drive 1, even though my MacBook does not have FW800? If not, what are my options?

Thanks!

Be careful, I've seen external drives get confused when you daisy chain them like that.

But yes, you should be able to connect them that way. The FW800 connection speed will bottleneck down to FW400 though.

quantum, what do you mean by confused?

Bottlenecking would not be a problem for me, FW 400 speed suits me fine.

Thanks for your replies!
