Hello, all.

I'm not sure if I can post this in this forum, but I wanted to see if you guys could tell me
what's exactly going on in this photo.

The repair service tells me that it's "liquid damage", but I'm not sure about that since I haven't spilled anything in the laptop. Does this look familiar?

Thank you in advance!

That brown stain isn't normal, are you sure no one else spilt coffee around it ?

Thank you for replying, guys.

The repair service centre told me that the stains felt tacky, and I don't think anyone spilled anything into it.

Looks like "something liquid" dripped there.
Might be interesting to see what the area directly above that point looks like (probably underneath the area close to the command or option keys)

Thanks for the input, guys.

I'm trying to figure out what this could be!

It might also be that the machine was used by a smoker. Some of that looks like nasty tar.

You might be onto something. Was the laptop used while smoking, or maybe incense burning, or a nearby humidifier, etc?

Cold weather and/or condensation maybe? Was it used outdoors?

Thanks for the reply.

No smoking nor burning incense, candles, etc.

My room is pretty warm during summers.

So like everyone else has said, that looks like water damage. Much of that looks like mold and some tacky build up.

My two questions are this:
1) Are you the original owner, or did you purchase/inherit this second hand? If so the previous owner could have done this and lied during the sale.

2). Do you live/work in a very humid environment? If so that could explain the mold and mildew build-up.

In any case unfortunately Apple what cover any warantees repairs due to the water damage, any repairs will cost you.

Hello, and thank you very much for your post.

1) I'm the original owner.
2) Yes, and it can get pretty warm in summers.

It's definitely abnormal, and it looks it's gonna cost me! :(

I just wanted to know what it could be, and how I can avoid this from happening in the future.

Thanks again.

That stinks!

I live in hot/humid region as well, and the best thing I can recommend it to try to only use your MacBook indoors with an AC as possible. It is possible your issue came from really high humidity.

Like other have said, the only other real possibility is if someone else accidentally spilled liquid on the computer as well and didn’t say anything.

You said you "don't think"? Doesn't sound like you are sure, are there others who use your laptop or around your laptop? If so, you have your answer.
