Dark Projector issues now upgraded to 10.6.4 help?

I work in a college and have noticed that any time I connect to a projector now that the image is so dark it's very hard to see. its like a giant vignette. This has happened using a combination of different Macs (Macbook Pro and iMac) a variety of connector and different projectors in different classrooms, all of which were fine previously. So Ive managed to whittle it down to one common factor and that is all the Macs were upgraded to 10.6.4.
I dont know what to do. Any advice would most definitely be helpful.
