So I have been using dark mode exclusively on my iPhone 14 pm because it is supposed to save battery. But reading (especially at night) I seem to have a lot more trouble in dark mode. In light mode the text doesn’t get as blurry and it doesn’t bother my eyes as much. So I have been testing light mode recently and it seems a bit better honestly.
So my question is this - how much of a battery saver is dark mode? How much more battery do you think I’ll be using if I switch to light mode?
Currently using about 50% battery per day (~6 hrs SOT).
Thanks in advance!

To be honest I’ve never heard of dark mode using less battery charge. I wasn’t aware of that. Are you sure it does. I would have thought it wouldn’t make any difference.

I’d say just test it but are you somewhere where you don’t have electricity for extended periods? If you’re only using 50% battery each day then just plug it in at night. If you’re needlessly causing yourself eye strain just because you want to end the day with a higher battery percentage that’s a little silly. It’s not going to make your phone battery last that much longer and batteries are relatively cheap to replace.

There’s a lot of factors like how bright you set your screen. If you’re constantly on 100% brightness, then light mode is going to use much more power than dark mode.

I found this article and it explains some of it

To me, dark mode is easier on the eyes. Never really noticed any battery savings but I’m also in a metal building all day with no WiFi.

No real difference in battery usage between the two for most people, I used dark mode for a while but switched back to light mode as I just prefer reading on a white background.

This is a good point. I am usually always in the vicinity of a charger at some point and can top it off.

I think dark mode is better in some settings but for reading I have noticed eye strain if my surroundings are dark.

This is exactly my experience.
Thank you for your replies! I think I will just test it out for a while. Even if I lose a bit more I’m still comfortably getting through the day
