HELP - I FELL INTO DARWIN BSD AND CAN'T GET UP!

I've tried everything in all the other postings...
Here's the problem:

When I turn on my g4 titanium laptop I get the Darwin BSD screen. I can login with my username and password but don't know what to do after that to get back to OSX.

The last thing I did before I shut down my computer the other day was to change the permissions so that only could access the HD. I guess that was pretty stupod cause now I can't even get in.

Thanks to anyone who can help me

Yep. It was.

Your best bet?

Boot from your installer DVD and run Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

I tried to turn on the computer with the mac osx 3.0 install disk in the drive and held down the c key but it wouldn't boot. I tried to start in safe mode but that didn't work. I tyed in everything i can think of including open.
right now the screen says "IP Packet filtering initiated, divert enabled, rule-based forwarding enabled, default to accept, logging disabled IP firewall loaded. Am I close????

I'm using an external monitor because the laptop's screen in NFG
