Dashboard and radio stations

Hi Although I have had my mac nearly three years Ive not used the dashboard much and dont know how to use it properly despite looking up info on it. I have made widgets for my favorite radio stations and put them on dashboard.

When I click open dashboard, the station starts to play, when I return to my desktop it stops. I know it is possible to have it so the station carries on playing as I achieved this before, but now cant remember how I did it.
Please can some one help?

I also would like to know if it is possible to create a widget in google chrome, rather than safari?
