When I use Dashboard on my Mac Pro or my MacBook Pro, the background is a grid, and it is really to align the widgets. However, on my MacBook Air it is "just" a solid dark background.

Where is this controlled?

Mavericks uses the grid, Mountain Lion doesn't. Are all Macs upgraded to Mavericks? It seems like the Air still needs to be upgraded.

Nope - all Macs are upgraded to Mavericks. The background on my MacBook Air is not the ugly lego block background from Mountain Lion, but just a solid dark grey background.

On my other Macs, a Mac Pro, two MacBook Pros, another MacBook Air, and my Mac Mini, the background is a grey grid type, just not on my 13" MacBook Air.
