Whenever I open Dashboard on my seven month old MacBook, I hear the familiar vvvv-dzzzzz-bvvvvvvt sound of the DVD drive attempting to load a disk that isn't there. It attempts to do this again about once every ten seconds, as long as Dashboard is kept open. Why is this happening?

Yes. Do I need to remove them one by one until it stops? I have quite a few and don't want to have to set them all up all over again.

Hmmm... I removed all of the widgets that had no configuration.
I still have:
Google
Wikipedia
Dictionary
Gmail
TV Show Tracker
Battery Meter
Calculator (Not the default one)

It's still doing it, but not as frequently

You don't have to uninstall them, but why don't you close them all for the time being, then restart Dashboard (sudo killall Dashboard in Terminal) and see if the problem goes away?
