data from old to new iPhone

When I upgrade to the iPhone 4 it will be my first time upgrading.
Question is: When I sync my 4 to my mac will all data from the GS3 be loaded into the new phone?
I guess the question is, does the backup of my old phone contain all the apps, pictures and music, and does that then get loaded into my iPhone 4?
This ques may seem dumb to many, but I've not faced this situation before.
