Im studying abroad in London and im from the US. I know if I were to use my phone I would get charged heavily but there are exceptions. My phone has been in Airplane mode since I left the country and I've been using Wi-Fi for my Internet needs. But I didn't turn the data off...I didn't even realize I could. I was told by friends that Airplane mode is enough if I'm just using Wi-Fi for Internet browsing. Will there be charges?

Nope. Airplane Mode turns off all the phones radios and to use data, you'd need to either turn on WiFi (which you don't get charged for) or turn off Airplane Mode.

You're good, no worries.
