I had "data roaming" option switched on, even though I'm not currently traveling. I turned it off.
So I take it this option is only when traveling abroad to avoid any data roaming charges. Is there any difference if this option is turned on of off if one is in their home area?

I looked at the carrier's map and see if there would be areas where their is no service. Opted to turn off data roaming because there were areas that my carrier doesn't cover. Shoot most of the areas no carrier covers. These were places like parks and near airports. Now since you have access to wifi calling, you don't really need to turn on your data roaming.

International is different than local.
