Data Transfer from old HD

I'm going to upgrade my old HD in my MB and install a new one soon. I was wondering if I would be able to buy one of these and take all the old stuff off of my current HD and transfer it to my new one I will install:

Will I be able to take apps and other essentials off and transfer them over? I don't want to lose iLife and all my apps. Or do those get installed when I re install Mac OSX?

Sure can use one of those and a new SATA drive, I'd suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner and making a clone of the current HDD on the new one and then all you have to do is switch them.
