At my workplace things are very well locked down, sometimes too well.

We have iOS devices which out of the blue loose date and time settings and show up 1970s date.

I can manually scroll and set to correct, or connect the device to another network (my phone hotspot) and it will reset correctly.

Where do iOS devices pull in their date / time settings from?
- Local DHCP
- Apple

Time and date can be set at Settings > General > Date & Time

Right,
When set to automatic the units at work loose time and go to 1970.

That's why I connected to another network and it automatically fixed it.

Where does the device get this info from?

btw if you google iphone date time 1970 you get a lot of hits

Technically, the information comes from what's known as an NTP (Network Time Protocol) server. The server they use is at time.apple.com.
