Sorry for the vague title and not sure where this post would go, but have a question.....

So currently I'm using a DNS 323 nas box right now with mavericks os.

I have all my videos and pictures sorted by date they're created.

I'm planning on moving up to a qnap 4bay or synology 4 bay and wanted to copy all my files over to the new nas. I've been told that all the file dates will be changed to the date I copy them over.

Is there a way to preserve the created dates on the files?

I've sort of read that it depends on the hd manufacturer or nas manufacturer?

Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, I don't use iPhoto or any photo management system.

All I do is grab the photos of my iphone and xsfer them to the nas.

There's lots of info on the net about what you're wanting to know. The key is how to search for it. The keywords would be something like:

osx copy files preserve modification dates
-or-
ssh copy files preserve modification dates
-or-
terminal command preserve modification dates mac
etc., etc....

Here's the first thing that came up when I googled that:
