Initially, everything I transferred to my MBP from my PC desktop and netbook (apart from some read-only images on an NTFS external drive) was stamped with a creation date that matched the date of transfer. However, I've noticed in ML that the creation dates of older .doc files I brought over from Windows (no migration assistant) automatically revert to the latest modification date once opened and closed without any changes having been made on my part, which I guess makes sense. Possibly JPEGs as well. Others, though, do not, and there's no rhyme or reason: the creation dates of newer .docx files remain fixed, as do those of .txt files, etc. So what gives? And is there a way to make this date correction a little more transparent and consistent, for the sake of keeping tabs on stuff?
And out of curiosity, do file creation/modification dates stay intact when using migration assistant to transfer from one Mac to another? Good to know for the future.
