I've been looking for a resolution to this problem and have so far been unlucky so I'm hoping one of you can help.

In my Date & Time Preferences, the 'Show AM/PM' option is permanently grayed-out - regardless of what other options I select.

I am in the UK, so have my time set to London BST. I am running a 1.83ghz Intel Macbook with Leopard 10.5.5. This problem also affects my iMac at work.

Thanks!

That's because you have "use 24 hour clock" ticked. ;)

edit: just checked mine. strangely mine is the same way regardless of whether 24 hour clock is ticked or not. I'm afraid I'm not sure what to suggest. I just use 24 hour and it needs no am/pm.

... I did say 'regardless of what options are checked' :p

Changing the time zone doesn't make a difference either.

The contents of the clock plist file give a further clue, deleting this file or manually editing it makes no difference however!

Sometimes these sorts of things are sensitive to what you've got selected in 'International' (which seems to take precedence), so I'd have a look there.

Hmm, International allows you to customise the time format - however, having made the relevant changes the option is still not available in Date & Time prefs!

Changing the region to United States or United States (Computer) adds AM/PM to the clock, however manually editing United Kingdom does not!

I have a slightly different problem. I have checked "Show date and time in menu bar." However, although the day, time and AM/PM show, the date does not. Nothing I've tried results in the date showing in the menu bar. Any suggestions?
