Datestamp missing in imovie

Hi,
I am transferring video from my miniDV camcorder to imvovie. When I view the video on the CAMCORDER it has the correct date and timestamp. But when the clips are transferred into imovie they do not have a date or timestamp on them. How do I keep the datestamp on the clips? Is there a setting in imovie? I am transferring the video onto my iMAc via Firewire.
