Erm... I've read some of Brin's stuff, but for whatever reason I've never really glommed onto it like I have other SF authors (William Gibson, Stephen Baxter, Greg Bear, Wil McCarthy, Gregory Benford, etc.).

I much prefer him to Bear, although I liked Eon.

The series I'm talking of in particular is both Uplift trilogies, have you read them?

Now my memory will need refreshing here, as the last time I read the books was when I was about 12, but these are the worlds with the "Practise Effect"?

Somehow that, and what it means, has stuck with me. May dig the books out next time I'm visiting my parents and re-read them as an adult....

Definately didn't know there were two trilogies though! Mind you, if they were written after 1987, it would explain why I didn't know - that being the last time I read one of his novels....
