MP 1,1-5,1 Davinci Resolve crashing

editing some sony MP4 4K footage and resolve keeps crashing or freezing. good for an hour but then struggles. its only a small project, total length is less than 2min & i dont have any fancy fusion effects going on. Im still very much a beginner & would like to know if there are any suggestions for how i can stabilise my 4,1>5,1 dual. The project is on the same SSD (samsing 860 evo 1TB that the OS & davinci resolve are on.
