So I used to have a few computers with iTunes on them... it looks like I probably had 5 of them.

Note that was iTunes.... been years since I used them.

So now I am up on a Mac Studio, and those iTunes PCs are ancient history

And now I want to add in Apple Music.

Trying to "Authorize" my Mac Studio, but I cannot becvause I am at the max of 5.

I googled and I need to log into one of those OLD accounts and deauthorize all... but thats not gonna happen. no access to them any more

So I am effectively locked out of Apple Music, at least through the Music (or Apple TV) app.

Is there any way I can do this throiugh my Apple Account, or through the iCloud interface, or am I SOL?

TIA!

Open Apple Music on the new Mac Studio, go to 'Account' in the menu bar and then 'Account Settings' from the dropdown. There you should see an option to 'Deauthorize' all computers under Account settings(Apple Account Summary).

Then you should be able to access it on your new Mac.

Thanks Svish. Wont work.

I cannot LOG INTO THE ACCOUNT.... it already has 5 (OLD) computers on it. So I canot log in to deauthorize them....

As I said, I think I need to somehow do this in my Apple Account or iCloud or something.

What do you mean you can’t log into the account? Do you have different accounts? The one that’s telling you you can’t play because you have five computers should be the one you’re logged into. You couldn’t play Apple Music if you’re not logged in?

Maybe I’m not understanding something

Can you provide more details of what happens at step 3?

If you need to deauthorize a computer that you don’t have access to

To deauthorize a computer that you don’t have access to, you have to deauthorize all of your computers. Then authorize each computer that you have again. You can deauthorize all computers only once a year.

  1. Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app.
  2. Choose Account > Account Settings.
  3. Sign in to your Apple Account. Forgot the email address or phone number that you use with Apple Account?
  4. On the Account Information page, look next to Computer Authorizations, then click Deauthorize All. If you don’t see this option, then this is your only authorized computer.
Apple Music app on Mac showing the Account Information page and the Deauthorize All button
  5. Authorize each computer that you use again.

As implied in the following, also relevant document, the account login (stage) itself isn’t absolutely tied to authorization:n:

Use a Mac or Windows PC to find or remove your associated devices

  1. Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app.
  2. From the menu bar on your Mac, choose Account > Account Settings. Or on your Windows PC, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and then choose View My Account. You might need to sign in to your Apple Account.
  3. Click Manage Linked Devices. If no devices are associated with your Apple Account, this section won't appear.
  4. If you want to remove a device, click Remove. If you can’t remove a device, sign out of your Apple Account on that device and try again. If you still can’t remove it, you might need to wait up to 90 days to associate the device with a different Apple Account.
