The screen of my old macbook is broken. I am running windows 10 professional in bootcamp. I want to deactivate the license and use it on another laptop as I traveling on an assignment. I would like to know whether deactivating it will make me lose my data on my old macbook? Can I again deactivate it from the new computer and reactivate it on my macbook after it is repaired. I am concerned about my data. Will this activation and deactivation process make me lose my data?

Your files will not be deleted if you deactivate. You will still be able to log in to Windows for a while after deactivation. Also you could boot into MacOS and read from there if you need to.

However, if you encrypted the files then it may not be possible (unless you have an external backup of the EFS key).

Anyway, there is no need to deactivate on Macbook. I believe you can install W10 Pro on you new laptop for free and use for free without activation. You will lose the ability to do customisation but otherwise it will be fully functional for your assignment.

Btw, backup your data regularly! :)
