Hello,
Mac Pro 2008 died. Likely the power supply but I’ve decided I don’t want to throw parts at it as OWC has a replacement Mac Pro for $200.
That said I mainly use this as a second computer, storage using the HD space and to rip Blu-ray’s using makemkv and then use Mac the ripper to make into a iTunes useable file.
Thoughts on replacement? I have a 30” ACD, multiple 8tb hds for backup and movie storage and then a 5870 graphics card which all meet my needs.
In a weird area where I have all the desktop components where an iMac ($1500 at least) would mean paying for stuff I don’t need and not sure if an MacMini ($1200) would be any faster than my current set up and require a bunch of external enclosures.
Mac sales has a 2009 4 core for $400 shipped which I’m leaning towards as everything above will fit into it. Maybe upgrade to 5.1 firmware, put in a 6 core, more ram and be done for ~$600.
Thoughts? I guess it’s a question of top of line older desktop vs newer bottom end.
