A friend of mine has just emailed me regarding his iBook;

what can the matter be with my ibook. sometimes when I turn it on I get the tone then nothing. if I turn it off and on again I might get a screen but if I move the display the thing looks like a bar code - is it dead ?

I thought it was either graphics card or the connections, but I dont know if this is right, or if it's repairable, or if that's it, time for a new one.

I guess it won't be under any warranties. Thats the most info I can give as I can't get hold of him at the moment to ask more. Any ideas?

Ah, you've been hit by the infamous logic board failure. Take it to your local Apple "Authorised Service Provider" and get it fixed - it's such a common problem that they'll fix it for free even when it's out of warranty.
