Dead iPad 3.

Here is how it started:
1. The locked screen comes on, you can see all the notifications etc. \
2. On the locked screen I can use the camera, read the notifications etc.
3. However when I swipe to the unlock screen, the numbers present themselves, but no matter how many times i press the numbers, nothing happens. The light indicator does not acknowledge you even pressed a number.
4. At this point I restart it and attempt it again. I have done this several times to no avail.
and now: Alas
Screen went black, it will not turn on at all. I ensured it was fully charged before i started all this.

Any solutions or suggestions will be appreciated.....

Do a hard reboot and see if it will pick up your passcode after that.

Thanks for your help. After 3 reboots it worked.
