Dead Laptop?? Getting files off??!!!!!!!!

My friend recently had a virus take over her computer(pc). It has literally destroyed it. You can turn it on but it automatically shuts down about halfway through booting up. She is getting a new laptop but she wants some files off her computer. Is there any way to plug my macbook pro into her laptop and pull the files off for her?

you could take her drive out and put it in an enclosure and then read it that way.

Or you could use a Linux like CD and boot that way and then copy the files off.

i thought of doing the enclosure thingy and i have a external hard drive i am not using that i can take apart but will it be compatable with a small laptop hd?

No, not directly it won't. They make adapters to convert between the two types of connector.

However, if you're going to go and buy something, you'd do just as well to buy a 2.5" drive enclosure. It would be a better fit and offer more protection. Besides, if this person's getting a new computer, they could still retain the old HDD and (once the data is backed up) just nuke it and, voila!, more free HDD space for them.

Before she does anything I'd make dang sure the HD is clean before she goes and starts transferring data over to a new drive...

yah the plan is to plug her hard drive into my mac and just grab picture files and that stuff and transfer that to another external hd then we will put them on the new laptop. my mac is the middle man lol. virus proof oh yeah
