I have a dead Macbook it will not charge nor will start up, Magsafe light very dim. It is quite an old machine that has been well used so good for scrap so to speak.

New Macbook on order :)

What I want to know is what do I need to connect the HD from the trashed machine which I know is OK to connect it to the new back Macbook so I can copy stuff across to the new machine, or even boot from it ?

Can you try to start the computer using the T + powerbutton? If so, just plug a Firewire cable and use it as a TARGET device. (Google how to connect it to your new comp. as there will be no new machine with Firewire)
If the machine does not start you will need to dissemble the back, and take the HDD to an external enclosure.
