on friday afternoon i shut my computer down in the menu and went for a nice weekend camping with the guys. I just got back in and turned my computer on and the Apple Optical mouse is dead. No little red light, no movement, nothing. What can be done etc. So i can get off my roomates PC and back to my happy little macworld.

repairing pro mice is, for all practical purposes, impossible. Try putting it in different USB ports, and wiggling the cable, to make sure it's the actual mouse that's dead-- then go buy another one.

sorry...

You can use any mouse on the Mac as long as it is USB. Take your roommates or head down to the store and plop down 15 bucks for a new optical one. They are cheap.
