I have read many posts on upgrade/substitute video cards for original mac pro 1,1. I just purchased a mac pro 1,1 2006 and now it won't boot...no chime...led light comes on...fans come on...superdrive comes on...then sits. This is my first try with a mac.

What video card can I use?

Will the newer substitutes allow the system to recognize the card and boot?

Thanks,

I think someone in the forums marketplace was giving away a free nVidia 7300 which is the stock default video card for that mac pro.

You can use
nVidia GeForce 7300 GT
ATI x1900xt
nVidia 8800GT (Mac Pro First Gen Edition, not the 2008 MP 8-Core version).

I *believe& the ATI 2600 may also be compatible for the first gen Mac Pros
I think even some newer cards may work too if you have the right ROM file.

Thanks for the help.

I had seen it, and then I noticed the cost. I would like to get a card for less, but in the end...whatever works best.
