I am now getting this baby
http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0G55LL/A?mco=MjE0NjE5MA

I received refurb 15inch mbp and it was DOA

so now I have decided to pony up the bills and just get the big daddy.

I cant wait.

Oh and I will be putting an SSD in it :)

I am a happy camper.

I must say however that the Apple Care people do not really care if you cancel your order outright. They did not budge at all on pricing!

A dead refurbished 15" made you get a refurbished 17" instead of a new 15"? It sounds like you got lucky cause you probably hadn't made up your mind when you bought the 15". Post up how things go with the 17"er please.

You will NOT be sorry! My 15" uMBP's graphics card was defective and I ended up paying the difference and went up to the 17". I could not be happier. I don't see why anyone would really want the 15" version. The resolution sucks and I'd rather have the battery life of the 17". Plus, the size difference really is negligible.

Throw in an expresscard slot and the 17" is the last real MBP. :(

glad to see you're happy with your 17" just as I am very pleased with my 15" why do you need to diss it?

Because some of is like the portability of the 15". And the size difference is not negligible when there is a clear size difference. Some people want 15. Some want 17. When can't you see that?

Just as I will never understand how anybody in their right mind would buy a 17" "laptop". They're huge and unportable. I've never met a person that's happy with the size of a 17", they all say they look nice in the shop but that they're extremely hard to lug around.

Very nice. Which SSD?

GSkill Falcon 256 SSD.

and yes haha I did get lucky because I was in between the two and I ended up pulling the trigger on the 17 :D

I guess I got a second chance :D

15 incher is fine too guys lets not fight :D

17 definitely requires a desk to use it on
13 you can use anywhere on your lap
15 can also be used on your lap at home and most other places

If your a taller or larger guy the 17 feels like a 15 and the 15 feels like a 13. Honestly I couldn't sit comfortably (naturally) with a 15 in my lap.

Some people do mind the extra size and extra 1.5lbs. Some people do not mind the lower resolution, as they'll hook it up to a much larger external display regardless, and many don't need the express card slot. Plus, it's just a single hour shorter in battery life.

The 17" is a great machine and the best specced MBP available, but there's still a gigantic market for the 15".

Jsimon9633, do you mind taking pics when you get it? I'm considering the refurb 2.66 too and just want to know what they are like.

Will do :)

By the way I walked into the Apple store with my Palm Pre and the apple geniuses were all "ooing and aaahing" it was funny to see.

Thanks a lot. The refurb 17" is a great deal at $1949USD/$2199CAD. I can only hope they are available still in late August which will probably be the earliest I can order one. I keep my eye on this thread.

17" is a great " portable DESKTOP "

15" is the best notebook for a majority of scenarios.

I have owned 17" units in the past - experience is a great teacher.

The size difference is more than negligible, to those who have carried both.

I have Express Card slot and over 15 hours of battery time, how much time does your FIXED battery give you??? :D
