Would you send a mbp back because of one dead pixel? Would it more depend on where it is on the screen? What about two or three? What would Apple say about it?

I had no dead pixels day one of my mbp. Day two, one dead but it's in an inconspicuous spot so it doesn't really bother me....but for a $2K laptop, it probably should be right. I have so much loaded on it that I don't want the hassle of sending it back. Thoughts?
 
For me it would depend on how prominent the dead/stuck pixel is and where it's located. If it was in the center of the screen and a bright green pixel, I would be more likely to return it than, say, a black dead pixel along the edge somewhere. Though if it were a few (like three or more) stuck/dead pixels anywhere, then definitely it would be going back.

Can you take a picture of this dead pixel?
 
Personally, I would send it back. I had a dead pixel on my iPad, which was in the top center portion of my screen. I tried to live with it, but it kept mocking me every time I turned the iPad on. I simply couldn't ignore it so I took it back. No problems from Apple.

It's a red pixel off to the lower right. Not very noticeable and so small because of the screen resolution (hi-res). It really isn't that bad. Just hate knowing it's there.
 
There's a difference between dead pixels and stuck pixels. At least that's the case for LCD televisions?

A dead pixel is black, no light is coming from it, and that is most likely permanent.

A red pixel as in your case (can be any color) is a stuck pixel, and there is a chance that it might start working again.

There's a few way to trying to force this to happen, though I'm not really aware which and how. But try googling it, and see if you can't solve the issue yourself. Often it involves flashing all the different colors on the screen rapidly after one another to try and "wake up" the pixel.
 
After much thought, I decided that the stuck pixel was unacceptable on a $2K 'pro' computer. While it's not a distraction, it shouldn't be there and it'll just eat me up if I don't have it resolved now. Heck, I've got a $300 netbook with no dead pixels, not to mention my two computer monitors, two iPhones, three lcd tv's, a Pioneer palsma tv and two automobile nav screens. A few years ago I had BMW replace my nav screen because of a dead pixel. So yeh, I should have no dead pixels on a high end machine like the MBP.

I went to a local Apple retail store today and they were excellent with it. They didn't bat an eye. They asked I wanted a new machine or a replacement screen. I went with the replacement screen. Otherwise, I'd have to backup all files etc. So in a few days, I should have a nice new dead pixel-free screen...fingers crossed.

Good customer service. That's the way it should be. And as I see it, it's part of the premium I pay for a 'pro' machine.

When I bought my MBP I noticed it had a stuck pixel not far from the right bottom corner.

I went to the shop to get a replacement, I know that one stuck pixel is not a big problem but I dont want to keep a 1700€ machine with such a thing like that.

As I knew the shop was not going to replace the computer only because of that pixel, I made up a story about random failings of the machine :)

However if you are in your 15 days period after the buy, you should be able to return it without saying anything, at least, that's how things work in most of the shops here in Spain.
