As I was in the middle of an email yesterday, my 2011 iMac 21 shut off. I could not get it to power on again. Leading up to the shut off, I did not notice anything unusual.

FWIW, the computer was plugged into a basic surge suppressor. Everything else connected to the surge suppressor was/is fine.

The word back from the local Microcenter is that it appears to be a power supply failure because there are no burn marks on any of the internals. Estimated repair cost with diagnostics $250-$300. I bought this 15 month old machine used without AC.

My first mac hardware failure after starting with a 2009 mini and several more recent MBP's since. :(

Any techs care to comment whether or not this is a typical failure?

Also wondering if the repair cost seems similar to others who have had to pay for a power supply replacement?
