Download all freebies that interest you and decide later, that is what I did. I had space though on my Mini, if not I probably would not have deleted any to make room for these new freebies.

I did the same. Jump on all the freebies you may even slightly be interested in and then you don't have to buy if you get interested down the line. If you don't like it, no loss. If you do like it, you just saved yourself money from down the line.

Well yeah, that's what I do as well.

I was just interested to hear some opinions on the game from people who have already played it.

Dead Space is fantastic. Any IAPs are completely optional.
