dead strip in middle of iphone 3g

i have a WAY out of warranty 3g that has a dead strip horizontally down the middle approximately where 456 are on the keypad. this makes it difficult to do about anything...

anywho, i looked around a little and couldn't find a fix. i did a 'reset all settings' which seemed to work for some people... no luck.

any ideas?

it seems from reading around it's not a hardware thing. i have replaced the LCD about 6 months ago. i guess for $18 i could do it again unless someone has a better idea...
