Dead Timecapsule after Update

I've got a 1st gen Timecapsule and it just died on me...BOO

so it was working fine, and I wanted to go into the configuration to change from a 5ghz N network to a 2.4ghz N so I could connect my iphone and ipad.

Apparently I haven't updated the firmware in a year or two, so it prompted me to update. After I updated the time capsule it died. It powers on but then the hard drive makes a whiirrrrr and then the system shuts down.

very annoying because it was running fine before this, no sign of any issues. Obviously I am out of my warranty, but just wondering if this could be as a result of the firmware update, and if so, how do I go about rolling it back.

In general they just don't last that long, at least I'm my experience.

Numerous amounts of updates built up over time can over whelm a hard disk, it happened to me one time but not with a time capsule.

turns out my TC falls in the serial number range (813, barely) of the support document here

apple will call me at 9 am to discuss my options (hoping a replacement).

according to this article, mine failed just within the replacement window...
