I have had my 2G iPhone now for about 1 1/2 years and use it everyday, mostly for web surfing and playing games.

The other day I started to notice that it seemed that a certain part of the screen was erratic when touched. Also, links in the browser would activate when previously they didn't when scrolling the screen.

I tried a restore hoping that would fix the problem. Unfortunately it didn't. The worse part is is that the dead area is right in the spot where you touch to install the apps. Now I can't get any apps.

Has anyone had a problem like this and if so was it fixable short of sending it back to Apple for repair? Or, has Apple voluntarily offered to fix a problem like this?

Thanks

Apple will fix it if you opted for extended applecare (or the original applecare is still valid, but since you've had it a year and a half I'd guess not).
