Can USB ports on an Apple monitor just go BAD? There are two on the back of my monitor (ATY,Rage128Pro: is what it's called on the System Profiler). They used to accommodate both the keyboard and the sound connection, but now I have to plug directly into the computer (G4 Cube-- sentimental attachment) and, with only one spare USB available on the cube, I can either have sound or keyboard but not both. (using keyboard now:) )

Is it a matter of the ports just not being recognized-- a software glitch of some kind-- or is it a hopeless internal failure of the ports?

I have used every possible variation of connecting the keyboard and speakers to the ports, but no luck. Except once I connected just the keyboard to one of the monitor's ports and the sound directly to the computer and I had both working, for a little while. .
