Becouse most people only need 512GB SSD? Why would I need more when I can store most of the things in the cloud and people who edit videos and photos do so from external storage? There is almost no reason to have a lot of internal storage

Huh? 512 GBs is a lot of space. If you using these laptops in professional environments, you are likely offloading to NAS or file server. Take a look at how YouTubers handle their video production and even post production. Anybody buying a Mac with 1 TB or more is in some cases the rare exception.

Sure, 12 years ago when you had a large local iTunes library and you ripped DVDs. The bulk media content such as music and videos is streamed. If you are taking lots of photos, you are likely backing them up to a cloud service.
