Apple's AirPods 2 have dropped to $99.00 today on Amazon, down from $129.00. Amazon is expecting a delivery estimate of late February for most locations in the United States as of writing.

This is an overall second-best price on the AirPods 2, but we of course haven't tracked record low deals since the holidays. If you're shopping for a cheaper pair of AirPods in 2023, this will be your best bet.

This model of the AirPods comes with the Lightning Charging Case. We track sales for every model of the AirPods in our Best AirPods Deals guide, so be sure to bookmark that page while you shop around for the wireless headphones.

Cool, these would be good for a kid. I recently got the AirPods Pro 2, they're awesome especially with the Active Noise Canceling. I don't think I could live without the feature anymore.

Those batteries were manufactured years ago. Doubt they'll last more than 6 months of regular use.

Wait... do you think the AirPods 2 that are for sale today were all manufactured in 2019 ?

I don't think that's true.

And it would go against Apple's "just in time" manufacturing practice.

Apple does not manufacture a bunch of products just to sit in a warehouse for months (or years!) and I don't think the batteries are either.

AirPods, in particular, are a very popular item. They sell quickly so they shouldn't be sitting around waiting to find a home.

They do. They have projections, revise projections as sales continue, order a final manufacturing run, the product is warehoused, then the line is repurposed for another product. It takes a LONG time and a LOT of work to repurpose a production line to make next product. The line is not going to wait around to make a slow trickle of Airpods every day to match sales. Those things were slammed down the line, bam, and done. Next! Airpods2 are old, old product now, and the "new" ones you buy today have been sitting in a warehouse for years.

Do you truly believe Apple made one HUGE batch of these several years ago and that's it? Because that's the only way your comment makes any sense.
Of course. When warehouse quantities start to run low (which is already projected, discussed and revised in endless meetings), Apple will start tooling the line up for manufacture of NextGenSuperProUltraMaxAirPod, which will subsequently be announced.

Yeah I understand the need to create new tooling for new products. But I assumed that if a product is still selling... it is also still being manufactured.

For instance... the iPhone 12 is still for sale on Apple's website right now.

So if someone buys one today... was it manufactured in 2020 when that model was first released?

Or is there a factory somewhere today currently cranking out new copies of this 2020 phone?

🤔

Of course they're not making new iPhone 12. It's just old warehouse stock. There's thousands of articles about wearhousing product after the production run. This isn't some secret Apple thing. It's boringly normal across industries. I was just pointing out the batteries are old, because the production run finished years ago, like for any modern production process.

So, i could get 2 new batteries for $30 off … considering that the ones in my first pair barely made it 3 years and are not replacable.
