I tried these puppies out. They do sound pretty great, but value wise I still prefer my AirPods Pro. Smaller, lighter, water resistant, solid sound and less expensive. I think the buck should’ve stopped at $349 for these. $299 or less is where I’m likely to buy. Still a ways to go.

Add a way to power them off so they’re not constantly draining battery and drop them two hundred more dollars and you got a deal.

The auto power down and power up feature is one of my favorite features that I didn't know I would like until I lived with it. Now I wouldn't want to do without it. I pick my AirPod Max up and put them on, they turn on and connect and I am talking/listening without fumbling for buttons. Take them off and put them down, the go into a lower power mode. Easy easy easy. Yes there is a slight power drain, but overnight it's not significant and I use my headphones every day for zoom and telephone calls. I'd say I charge them twice a week for a couple of hours. Not a big deal (to me).

Prior to these I used Bose's wireless for essentially noise cancellation (and music listening) on the plane. And then I would stuff them in a drawer and forget about them. And they would eventually drain and I would have to recharge them. A on/off button made sense in that setting, but wasn't really that useful except for week long trips.

as for the price...well they did come out with a HomePod mini, maybe they will come out with a AirPod not so max for you.

Waiting for them to drop to $330....

Well, $330 is not far from where the Sony WH-1000XM4s sit. The AirPods Max are objectively better in terms of materials, build quality, features (spatial audio), and overall user experience. Many would argue they're better in design and sound quality too. And I own the XM4s!

The XM4s do have some small advantages in battery life and charge speed, but overall, I'd be surprised if we see the AirPods Max drop that low!

I have a $30 reward zone certificate so I'm considering them. I wish I had price matched Adorama though.

Still not sure they're worth it....

I doubt they will go down much lower. These are best in class noise cancellation and sound is really good. The mic is incredible and works insanely good with siri

They’re definitely gonna be discontinued. Only question is when. I only saw one in the wild besides the one I bought and returned, and I travel frequently.

For me they're more a "used while relaxing at home" product than a "show off while out and about" product. Even using them on a plane is a bit difficult because of the lack of a proper protective case. Personally I never use noise cancelling headphones while walking or cycling around the city because of the need to maintain situational awareness for traffic etc.

They have have the auto-sleep mode, but why not give us users a way to just power them off. Hold the button for 5 seconds or something? Often I listen to music and may put away the headphone for a week. Why can't I just turn them off when I *know* I won't be using them for a while?

There really is no good excuse for not offering some way to do it.

To your point, just holding down the crown for a certain amount of time should allow one to do it.

Waiting for the next version with the held back features. Good with my Air Pods Pro but I've found them to have a mechanical issue with the snap on rubber pieces. They tend to wear in about a year if you run with them and have to get whole replacements.

Really curious to all those that make these comments actually have owned one for more that a week and then just aren’t rationalizing their decision to return? Or owned them at all.

why can’t they just give us a power off by holding the button for five seconds? Because then its a power off. And it won‘t Auto power on. Its a binary decision. To have or not to have. Apple chose not to have and a lot of us OWNERS agree.

Did anyone else buy them? I received my first pair from Amazon earlier this week and they had some minor marks/scratches on the right ear cup. So I would have considered them in very good but certainly not new/unrefurbished. After complaining to amazon they send me a replacement and guess what: That one had a even more noticeable mark on the right cup.
Both of them seemed properly sealed in the box. Not sure what’s going on but I checked with an Apple store employee and they said they never had issues like this with the units they sell at the store. So it seems something weird is going on with the supplier amazon is using…
Would love to hear if anyone else might have experienced this issue with out of the box airpods?
