Amazon today knocked the price of the 64GB Apple TV 4K down to $169.99, from $199.00. This model is sold directly from Amazon and it's in stock and ready to ship out today.

This deal now matches the same sale price of the 32GB Apple TV 4K, allowing you to double the storage of the set-top box at no extra cost. Compared to past sales, this is a match of the all-time low price on this version of the 2021 Apple TV 4K.

Apple updated the Apple TV 4K in April 2021, including an A12 Bionic processor, 4K high frame rate HDR support, and the redesigned Siri Remote. This version of the Siri Remote is larger than the previous model, and it includes a clickpad control wheel, a dedicated power button, and a side button for Siri controls.

I really wish this was a little more price competitive (like many Apple products), but it really is much better hardware than other streaming devices, with the only exception being the Shield TV. That said, it's kind of shameful how much they're charging for the old 2nd Gen. Apple TV with the A8 chip.

It's still overpriced by $129. I considered upgrading from my 2015 Apple TV to the 4K Apple TV box. Then it dawned on me. There's so little 4K streaming content. My (2) Google Chromecast's which I purchased from Walmart $45 each and they do 4K. Then clincher was that the Apple TV+ app is available on the new Google Chromecast. So for $90 I paid a little less than 50% off the price of an Apple 4K box.

I just purchased one last week after my inbuilt Android TV was just getting too laggy and with no AirPlay support. The remote is absolutely amazing, works flawlessly and feels so nice to the touch. I like the HDR screensavers too.

I think the new Google Chromecast is a great device, but it needs a bit more RAM for me. But it is hard to beat the price.

I would agree 100% with that statement. I also prefer the Chromecast's UI vs the Apple TV interface. It's hard for me to put into words but the Apple TV UI is a little bit to clean/clinical/sterile for my taste whereas the Chromecast UI is just the opposite and I think that's where a little bit more RAM would have helped.

Does anyone know if the Youtube App can play HDR content with this latest Apple TV 4K?

The older version I have definitely cannot.

I've definitely bought my last Apple TV. Way overpriced, and since the Apple TV+ service has been sub-par, the only benefit to owning one is air play. You can play through Alexa or Chromecast for a fraction of the cost.

If it had at least 256 GB and the ability to download videos/films to watch them offline I'd buy one. Otherwise, I'm better with my iPhone and AirPlay it to my TV.

Glad I saw this. I just ordered my third one. I replaced all my Tivos a couple months ago, and the Apple TV gives me a consistent, easy to use interface for accessing Hulu+. It's way cheaper than a Tivo, so I don't care if it's expensive compared to the competition.

I am surprised how there isn't a lot of 4K streaming available. I can't fathom why anyone would buy an 8K tv, unless they plan to have it for 20 years, because that's how long it will take for 8K streaming to be a thing that people can do.

The only reason to buy a 4K or 8K TV is to play games. Many of the latest PC titles run in 4K and are promising in the future to run in 8K once those TV's become more mainstream. TV Studios are still stuck on 1080P as that's a HUGE investment for them so it's really down to streaming services and that's down to the big services like Netflix, Amazon and Apple are now doing certain programs in 4K.

The one hook Apple has are the 4K screensavers which to this day are a marvel and showcase the Apple TV box. Besides that, I see NO real reason to drop $200 on an Apple streaming box when the competition is doing the same for far less the costs.

The remote is still buggy as hell, random discconnect and reconnects the latest 4K Apple TV is a awful product with little testing and such a high price.

Tim Cook should consider to redirect AppleTV resources to its AR/VR project as at this point the device is great hardware however it’s capabilities have been available on most other platforms and devices while this device still being overpriced. If the iPhone SE 2022 and iPhone mini 12/13 have been selling poorly while being discontinued I fail to see what the sales numbers are for an AppleTV box.

Seriously Shield has as good if not better hardware and capabilities and about the only thing is missing is AirPlay 2 while on most other TV’s it’s built-in along with ChromeCast. At this point the key feature of AppleTV being AirPlay2 is already on many TV’s by default and works well while GoogleTV has taken and still is hugh chunks of the living room market share. I owned many AppleTV devices and when compared to the Shield it’s just feels like the original words from the late Steve Jobs, “a hobby”.

Get a Shield or a reputable branded TV with GoogleTV, I and family have not experienced any issues. AppleTV still remains a hobby after all these years.

Have a boatload of apps on my Apple TV HD 32GB and have yet to run out of space. No offloading of apps because I only used hotspot and do t want to redownload.
Limited amount of games. Looks like developers abandoned it around 2016.

This ATV 4K might be overpriced but it seems to be the only one I can pair to multiple airpods to watch tv. I also have a google chromecast. It is priced competitively, however, bluetooth connections are buggy for me and I've only been able to use one set of bluetooth headphones at a time. I know this sounds crazy but my partner and I sometimes watch movies with airpods b/c it's easier to hear the dialogue and become more immersed in a movie/ tv show.

Also, Sonos works really well for me with ATV. I think it really depends on how invested you are in the Apple eco-system and if you have some niche needs that make the $200 price palatable.

We have good luck with games on Apple Arcade working with Apple TV. It honestly feels like the right balance of gaming for the Apple TV, where one would probably want to go to Xbox, PS, Switch for more depth.

I bought the 4K during the last sale a couple of weeks ago. Hooked it up to a 4K portable monitor and I mirror my iPhone. I use it for reading/browsing, playing web based emulators, and watching tv/movies. Great setup with no lag.

Yeah, I had a Chromecast TV in the living room, but switching between apps just had a lot of re-downloading and restarting, which pushed me towards just coughing up the money for AppleTV. I had mostly been fine with Chromecast in the past, but once we dropped the cable box for YouTube TV last year, I went for it. Now as far as layout, I kind of prefer the app menu of an AppleTV, but the Chromecast feed is also enjoyable, and I could totally see people preferring that.

Apple TV has no differentiation value over other devices (FireTV, Roku, Chrome) and charged a premium.

It's likely the old way of thinking that Apple Hardware has to be expensive. That leads to its subscription jumping onto other platform.
