Last week, the Apple Pencil 2 hit a new all-time low price on Amazon and quickly went out of stock. Today, Amazon has returned with this record low price of $85.00 on the accessory, down from $129.00, and it's in stock and ready to deliver between May 26 and 31.

The Apple Pencil 2 is compatible with the following iPads: iPad mini (6th generation), iPad Air (4th generation and later), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later). The second generation Apple Pencil is a perfect accessory for anyone planning to use the new Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro apps now available for the iPad.

If you have the newest iPad Pro models, the second-generation Apple Pencil can now be detected while hovering up to 12mm above the display. This allows users to see a preview of their drawing before they make it, and with Scribble text fields automatically expand when the pencil gets near the screen.

First I have heard of folks wanting a microphone built into an Apple Pencil...?

Apple Pencil 3 will move around the magnets and whatnot to make it work with a charging system that works around the landscape oriented front-facing camera and junk...

Flipping it to use the other end as a different tool would be logical; draw/write with the pointy end, erase with the chunky end...

I really don’t think I’d use this much for the Air I bought recently, but I find it so cool that I keep having to talk myself out of just buying it at this price.

My laptop had a pencil, my new laptop came with a pencil, and in the last decade I have never found a use for a pencil. Like Steve said, the stylus is built right into my hand.

Dang it, literally bought one just yesterday at an Apple store. The employee gave me a ten-dollar discount out of the blue, which has never happened before, and this might explain it.

I have the 1st gen Pencil and works great. Is it worth upgrading to Gen 2?
I forget the differences have been using a Pencil 2 since my first iPad Pro 12.9 1 TB(gen 3) just got gen 6 (newest) 2 TB 12.9 ipad pro. The 2 gen has more features on iPads that it supports.

Here is good article on both that might help guide you:

Wow. Lower than Pencil 1 pricing.
My daughter damaged the tip of her P1. Id' like to replace but ideally for less than the Apple's current $100. Cheapest I can find is on Amazon for $89. That still seems high for that version.

Which pencil gen you need depends on the device you want to use it on. The two gens aren't compatible with each other, and there is no Apple device that supports both gens.

You mean the nib? You can replace those separately.
The world is clamouring for Pencil 3 with a built-in microphone and both ends functional.
9to5Mac ran a story yesterday about a patent for FindMy built into a new Apple Pencil.

In addition to the threaded section of the plastic tip breaking, the internal brass stem is also slightly bent. Admittedly, I've not yet conducted any research as to repair option, but if there were a way to address just the tip, I'd be into that. 😂

Hmm, FindMy seems an interesting addition to Pencil. In the year I've been using Pencil 2 with an iPad mini 6, the only functionality I can think of adding might be a way to adjust brush diameter without having to go to the pen selection dock. A tripple-tap could possibly allow brush diameter adjustment via sliding your finger up/down the lower 2" of the flat side of Pencil. I also read where someone wanted functionality built into both ends of Pencil. I could maybe get into that. The idea of flipping Pencil around for leveraging the other end of Pencil is not yet something I've wished was possible, thanks to double-tap to toggle between pen and eraser. Works great. Super efficient.

These should retail for $79.99 and apple would still make a killer profit. It's an absurdity that they charge so much for this.
