Amazon today has the 256GB M1 MacBook Air for the record low price of $749.99, down from $999.00. This has been one of the best all-around discounts on any MacBook model this summer, following its initial debut during Prime Day in July.

You can get the notebook in all three colors of Gold, Silver, and Space Gray at this price. Silver and Gold have an estimated delivery date of August 16 to August 19, but Space Gray is seeing a slightly delayed delivery estimate of August 25 to August 29.

There are many internal and external differences between the 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Air and the newer 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch M2 MacBook Air models, but as an entry-level computer the M1 device should work great for common tasks, especially at this all-time low pricing. You can read our guide to get a better look at all the similarities and differences between the generations.

My youngest is starting community college this Fall to "knock out" some core classes and I have to imagine this is perfect for him. How can it not be?

I think this would be a fabulous option!! I work in higher education and am really pleased with my M1 MacBook Pro which has very similar specs to this one.

It is absolutely perfect for those tasks. While some will poo-poo (technical term) it only having 8GB or only 256GB, there are cases that that is more than adequate for.

I think this would be an excellent spare notebook for travel. If they push it down to 650 in a year, I might pick up one. I am using my old 2015 13 in MBP and a spare travel computer, but its so bulky to travel with.

Yes you are way off base. That is what YOU did in college. That isn't what goes on today. 1TB minimum. MINIMUM.

It's starting to seem that the base models of the newest Apple products are a hard sell with their under-equipped RAM and storage.
I'd assume Apple gives them to resellers with a discount from the retail price? Don't think they're a hard sell as the base configurations sell the best. Imo it's just a promo discount which happens a lot, I always buy cash and often find buying outside of the official Apple stores is cheaper, but the retailers may have interest rates if you're not paying in full so in those cases it frequently makes better sense to go to Apple. But that's just my theory.

At 750 USD it's a steal, excellent value proposition. We saw these discounts in Europe and suddenly everyone and their grandma has an M1 Air 😯 Almost all of them new to the Mac or Apple products in general.

I disagree — I’d say that this is a more-appropriate price for this computer than MSRP. The issue is upgrade pricing, and lack of sales on other configs.

This model is frequently on sale for $750, but if you want any more storage and RAM, you’re paying $1,400.

$750 MacBook Air? Easy sell.

$650 for an additional 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM? Bite me!

Well even Grandma is going to fill up that 256MB with photos and videos in a year. there is NO USE CASE for 256 MB.
I'm a designer with tons of files and heavy programs ranging from 3D software and textures, the whole Adobe suite, etc. to stuff from my personal life like documents, presentations and downloaded music, and I have 130GB of the 256 free. Granted I don't have photos but storing photos locally is a recipe for disaster anyway. It really is perfectly manageable as long as you're storing things you don't need every single day non-locally (as you should be).

Needs to be 1TB, minimum. There isn't even room for argument. 256 MB was reasonable 12 years ago. Not today.

And yet I sit here with my 512 Gb M1 Air running the company I work for. I have 130 Gb used on my SSD, so the 256 Gb would be plenty. Not a single complaint, it runs like a champ in every way thinkable.

I would stay away from posts like yours really. You buy what you need. Or should I go to the Apple Store and trade it in for a 1 TB model? You do not need to answer that. :)

I first heard that term from my ex's parents in casual conversation. They are English, and I'm a southern boy from Georgia.
They didn't stop to explain what it meant, and I just sat there, befuddled, that they used that term out of everything to say. They eventually told me it is used to show that an idea is a little silly. They spelled it pooh pooh though

On that upgrade price they're doing something to you... but it ain't biting 🪛

Not off base. I've used mine, base model, for some very involved design work (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign) simultaneously with email, productivity software, etc. No big slowdowns, no serious issues. More than sufficient for the usage you describe above. Only big hitch has been the 256 GB of storage which has not been sufficient to keep up with the large files I get.

That said, my opinion is that 8/256 is fine for many uses today, but 16/512 has a better shot of being useful down the line. Today's "zippy and efficient" has a way of turning into tomorrow's "slowing down" and "lagging" with ever-growing needs of updated OS and other software.

Frankly, I see him replacing it with a beefier machine if he goes to university for a degree that requires a beefier machine or he uses it in perpetuity for the most basic of tasks.

Thanks for the feedback!
