Today we're tracking a trio of iPad-related discounts on Amazon, focusing on markdowns on the 2022 iPad Air, 2021 iPad, and 2021 iPad Pro. Many of these sales are offering all-time low prices on Apple's tablets.

iPad Air (2022)

Starting with the all-new 10.9-inch iPad Air, Amazon has discounts on both Wi-Fi versions of this tablet. You can get the 64GB Wi-Fi iPad Air for $569.99, down from $599.00. This sale price is available in all five colors, and it's in stock and ready to ship directly from Amazon today.

There's also the 256GB Wi-Fi iPad Air for $679.00, down from $749.00, and this one is only available in Space Gray. Both of these discounts represent all-time low prices on the new iPad Air, and only Amazon is offering the sales.

iPad Pro (2021)

You can also get the 128GB Wi-Fi 12.9-inch iPad Pro at an all-time low price of $999.00 on Amazon, down from $1,099.00. This has been one of the most consistent deals for all of the 2021 iPad Pro line, and it remains the cheapest entry point into the larger 12.9-inch versions of the tablet.

If you're looking for the 11-inch iPad Pro, there are also a few models of that device on sale. The 128GB Wi-Fi 11-inch iPad Pro is priced at $749.00 on Amazon ($50 off), the 256GB Wi-Fi model is priced at $849.00 ($50 off), and the 512GB Wi-Fi model is priced at $999.99 ($100 off).

iPad (2021)

Lastly, Amazon has Apple's 256GB Wi-Fi 10.2-inch iPad for $429.00, down from $479.00. This sale is only available in Space Gray, and Amazon is currently estimating a delivery between April 8-15 as of writing.

This is the best price we've ever tracked on this version of the 10.2-inch iPad, and only Amazon is offering this steep of a discount at this time. We aren't currently tracking any markdowns on the 64GB Wi-Fi model.

Well, good. 64GB is too little space to get with any new iPad. 128GB might be sufficient, but Apple doesn't offer that amount of storage. It's good for Amazon to ignore the 64GB iPad in their sales.

The only iOS device where 64GB makes sense is the Apple Studio Display.

It’s a pretty abysmal move. They stratify their product line like this so they can offer “introductory pricing” similar to the base model at a car dealership. Imagine if the world was just straight-forward…

OK cool. That’ll make a huge difference running Google Sheets. What is the use case when the OS sucks? You missed the entire point of the post.
If all you do is run Google Sheets, you probably should have bought a cheaper iPad. Maybe get a refurbished A# iPad so you don't get triggered by the word "M1". Or you should buy a MacBook so you will stop trying to make the iPad a MacBook.

64GB is more than enough for most people. They make sales on high capacity models because they don't sell as well as base models.

The iPad Pro my wife has (the 11 inch) is great at doodling. Best drawing tablet in the semi-pro space hands down. It's also great to play some games on Apple Arcade. My son likes that a lot. He's 8. So.... yeah. It's okay as a reading device, maybe a bit clunky, but okay. Center Stage is a nice feature. That's about it.

My point is .... you could do all of that with an A15, half the RAM, without the over-engineered camera array (who shoots photos or even video with their iPad?! Not even mentioning LiDAR...) The one thing the iPad Pro has over the iPad Nothing is Pro Motion (which is a game changer using it as a drawing tablet) and Pencil 2 support. If Apple actually packed that into the baseline iPad they could discontinue the iPP11 right away, and the iPad Air alongside it.

I don't care much for Mini LED, which I believe will not be long lived, and I don't care much for computing horsepower that has no application. Let's just keep the iPad an iPad and price it accordingly, and not try to shoehorn a laptop into it because it ain't going to be one.

Ah right, and bring back the MBA11.

With respect - 16gb/32gb/64gb entry points have never been about "enough for most people".

It's all just pricing strategy to get low entry points.

They make a PILE of money on very very overpriced component upgrades (ram/storage)

Remember the days when Apple wasn't about spec comparisons in this way?

It's sort of ironic that's now become a talking point to justify these extremely incremental updates.
Apple wasn't about specs when the specs made them look inferior; now they are happy to talk about their specs, because their specs are finally worth taking about.

Almost every phone, tablet and computer gets regular incremental updates, and occasional significant updates.

Apple used to be about providing "great consumer solutions" and the specs were "irrelevant"

But that was also the Apple that made things like routers, not because they were some massive profit center, but because it was a great piece of completing an ecosystem for their consumers.

Things have changed in Cupertino -- for better and worse

Apple always talked about the specs unless the specs were inferior.

I would love to get updated Airport and Time Machine hardware, ours are still running great despite being rather old, but will fail at some point I'm sure.

Weird because everyone in my family has an iPad and everyone has the base model (64GB and one has 32GB) and no one complains about the lack of storage, it's very rare for people to store photos/videos etc locally when cloud storage is so convenient and cheap. Most people on this forum don't understand how 99% of the population uses their tech (Well it is a forum for apple nerds after-all).

You're missing my point

It is - at best - coincidental that the base storage works well for your family.

Apple makes these decisions based upon bill of materials and setting entry prices at the right slots and ultimately setting up good upsell situations.

(think about it for a second -- is it better Apple financially if you buy a base iPad or pay for one with overpriced upgrades?)

Remember the 16gb base iPhones that went on so long many users couldn't even do an iOS update? (not enough space)

Apple is doing these entry points for their own reasons. If it happens to line up with "enough for some users", that's great -- but not why they are choosing what they choose.

Also, for the record, my beloved iPad mini 5 is a base model 64gb.
Not because that's what would be best for me -- but because I'm cheap and got a great deal on it.

I'm also reticent to ever pay for their upgrades as they screw you on trade-in value down the line on that.

Ideally I'd have one with at least 256gb so I could have my entire lossless music library with me locally at all times (I really miss that).

It'd be amazing if they'd add an SD card slot for extra media space
(lmfao as I say it -- trust me - I know they never will)

Heck, I can still survive on 32 GB without even filling it. Everybody seems so fixated that they need the ‘highest storage possible’, but yet they don’t even realize how much storage they are even using in the first place. I will say, if you’re somebody that has a lot of media through videos and photos, then I would opt for the safer route for a higher storage, but it really varies for the individual. However, there are deals to be had through the larger storage versions, you just have to keep watch for them through the likes of Amazon, Target, Best Buy, ect.
