Following a few discounts on the 16-inch MacBook Pro earlier this week, Amazon today has introduced markdowns on the smaller 14-inch models of the 2021 MacBook Pro. Just like the 16-inch computers, this marks the first time we've seen stock reappear for the newest MacBook Pros in a few weeks.

Sales start with the 8-Core M1 Pro, 512GB 14-inch MacBook Pro for $1,799.00, down from $1,999.00. This one is on sale in Silver and Space Gray, with estimated delivery dates arriving in late June. This is a second-best price, but the first in-stock sale we've tracked on the 14-inch MacBook Pro in just over a month.

Moving to the 10-Core M1 Pro, 1TB 14-inch MacBook Pro, this one is on sale for $2,299.00 only in Space Gray. Delivery estimates provide a June 21-22 arrival date for most places in the United States, and this is another second-best price.

This is only $100 more than the M2 MB Pro with 16/512.

That extra $100 buys you a bigger, brighter, better display, smaller bezels, much better speakers and webcam, ports galore, better cooling, and performance that equals or exceeds the M2 in most ways.

I own the 10-core 14" and love it. But if I were buying now, I'd get the new Air. The lack of fan, portability, media encoder and lower price make it so appealing. The performance gap between this base Pro and the new Air are negligible in 95% of use cases. The new Air will likely be faster for many tasks with the single-core speed improvement.

Man I was hesitate all night between M2 Air and this M1 Pro. Want to but the Air, but the screen and speaker is not good as Pro, want to buy Pro, but the new M2 Pro may come out in next few month! Dammmn!

I like the Air's weight, proportions, and traditional looking keyboard tray (body colored rather than black), but in every other way, this is better.

In the past, it was a no brainer to pick two extra cores (four power cores vs six) rather than a 10% speed bump, which is essentially what the M2 is (3.49GHz vs 3.2 GHz, IIRC). I think that still holds today.

I waited for the M2 Air announcement and then bought the 14" 10 core that Friday. As a developer running some heavy monolith Java / Docker, then automated e2e tests, etc, I needed something beefier with breathing room. So far I've only had the fans come on once and it was the usual hog - MS Teams.

Also consider the New Pro might cost more thanks to inflation.

Agree with this, except I think the webcam might be better in the M2 Air? 1080p with better low light performance due to the M2.

well if you get the M1 pro the Pros always hold their value.. more than air...

Too early to say any of that.
Should wait until M2 gets on hand, then make your conclusion without guessing what is better and what is not.
